Milhouse Van Halen drops EP "6"

Milhouse Van Halen, the happy drummer turned miserable acoustic punkster, starts 2020 with the sixth of his twelve monthly EPs. "6" is all about friendship and moving on when your mates don't instantly like one of your Myspace updates or something.

"I've moved around a lot and have had the privilege of meeting, and then forgetting, a lot of friends. Both of these songs are about that and it seemed like a logical pairing to have for a new year," he explains.

Milhouse keeps things lo-fi with just guitar and voice, influenced by the likes of Elliot Smith, Paul Baribeau and early Green Day. The majority of his lyrics come from real-life experiences that he wants to convey to others, so they can find some comfort or whatever.

"Friendship" was written after leaving a town he'd called home for a few years and realising that, like girlfriends, sometimes people just drift apart and they don't even notice.

"I'd had this friend who was super close. We saw each other every day but it got to a point where I felt like I was growing up when he wasn't. After moving away, it just put everything in focus," he says.

"Letting Go" is much the same and encompasses the acceptance that things have changed and you might not need them anymore. Like that episode of Friends where Chandler and Ross's college friend doesn't come to visit so they go out with Joey and realise their partying days are over. EP 6 is available on all major streaming platforms and, when he's not busy with other bands and work, he'll get round to booking some shows!
